“A personal music server
for everyone”

Playing Music

To play music with Sockso, you just have to click the little green play icons next to the music you want to listen to. What happens after you click play depends on the play type you have selected. In the top right hand corner of the screen you'll see the play options which look like this...

The default is Flash Player, which means that tracks will be played by a popup flash player right there on the website. You don't need to have another music player like iTunes or Windows Media Player to use this.

NB: The one problem with the flash player is that it can only play MP3's, so it will filter to only these tracks when playing playlists. But you can use Sockso's encoders options to re-encode music to mp3 on-the-fly! When you have this set up you can disable this filtering by setting the www.flashPlayer.dontFilterMp3s property to yes.

If you do want to use your own media player though (iTunes, WMP, Winamp, etc...) then you can select either the M3U, Pls, or XSPF options. These will send the playlist to your computer so you can use your preferred music application to listen.

HTML5 Player

The HTML5 Player should now allow you to use Sockso on mobile devices like iPad, iPhone, etc... It functions pretty much the same as all the other players but also has the following key bindings:

  • a - previous track
  • d - next track
  • w - volume up
  • s - volume down
  • space - pause

For MSK and chid. i have learned the hard way using a video server that for some reason html5 player does not work on safari. If you have a mac, try installing mozilla firefox and it will work. i have tested this on only computers not iphones or ipads.

First I have to say great product.
    To the question:
    Above it says:
"But you can use Sockso's encoders options to re-encode music to mp3 on-the-fly!"
I see in Encoders tab - MP3. I choose Built-in and then it says Encoder Lame. Then there's bit rate which is blank - so what should the bit rate be?

    Also it says:
"When you have this set up you can disable this filtering by setting the www.flashPlayer.dontFilterMp3s property to yes."
    "
Don't understand what this means? What is meant by filtering and where do I set the "www.flashPlayer.dontFilterMp3s property to yes"

Finally is there any way I can stream and my 'listeners' can play MP4's i.e. music videos - video and music combined. Thanks in advance for your attention to this and a great product.

I can't understand why but HTMl5 player doesn't work for my ipad, JPlayer works great though, and works with pause/play.
I'm going to try patch in next/prev support sometime.
